Building to Budget

Renovation, Extension & New Build Architecture

When commencing a new project, whether it be remodelling, building an extension, converting your loft, or a new build house, costs can soon escalate. If you have a limited or strict budget to adhere to it is sensible to prioritise.

Initially allocate the required budget to the essential elements of the build. Spend some time researching and retrieving several quotes for these areas. The effort you put in at this stage will benefit your project in the long run.

Some architects or architectural designers offer project management services so why not make use of this service. Although there is a cost involved the benefits ensure you gain in the end. Firstly they are experienced in working within a budget. They also have access to quality professionals who they are likely to have worked with before and who are reasonably priced for the services offered. There is also the added benefit of them utilising their knowledge to access materials.

Always allocate money to improvements and additions second. If the budget is wearing thin economise on items that can easily be upgraded at a later date. Phase the work over time leaving some projects for later when you have more funds. In contrast to this get the basics ready for any later additions to keep costs down in the future. For example preparing foundations for the current project as well as any future planned additions.

Standardised projects are often cheaper as these are less labour intensive for the builders who are experienced in working with these builds, compared to bespoke unusual designs where the builder may have an element of learning how to fit them or sourcing new products. The builder will therefore consider this when producing a quote for a project of this nature. At DMDA we have a list of trusted builders who are experienced in all methods of construction and building work who we can happily recommend.

Build up as it is more cost effective with the average outlay much less per m2 over two storeys compared to a single storey.

At DMDA our free consultation gives you the opportunity to discuss your project ideas whilst receiving recommendations of designs that will complement your home. You will then receive a detailed fixed price quotation. Our architectural services remain transparent, flexible and reliable and we can cater for your needs whatever your budget.

For loft conversions, home extensions, barn conversions, renovations, refurbishment and new build, Dylan Morton Design & Architecture offer a complete architectural service.
